The subject of this project is the construction of the Rewilding Center, the revitalization and transformation of the former fishponds and restaurant into an environmentally friendly center for lovers of nature and ecology. The Rewilding Center consists of two functional units. In addition to the central building, which houses a restaurant, space for lectures, workshops and exhibitions, 8 smaller holiday houses are also planned.

CONTEXT

When designing the conceptual solution for the surrounding area, the natural and ecological values ​​of the landscape were respected. The entire area is free, bordered by the river Suvaja, ponds, trees and beautiful views, but designed and interwoven with architecture of appropriate scale and design.

CONCEPT

“Fish” building

The building was conceived as an interpretation center, a place for education, workshops and lectures. In addition to the content intended for educational programs, the building houses a restaurant, a shop with local products, space for permanent and temporary exhibitions and the administrative part of Rewilding Velebit Foundation. The shape of the building resembles a fish, and it is located in the northern part of the site, which includes few former fishponds.

House “Bird”

The vacation homes are designed as stand-alone, located in different locations within the scope. Two types are planned, for 2-4 people and 4-6 people. They are designed to provide comfort with maximum protection of nature, and offer a unique experience.

CURIOSITIES

The houses are raised from the ground, and the foundations minimally encroach on it.  An educational pedestrian path, raised from the ground – passes through the building, and the vehicular access for delivery and emergency vehicles is provided from the existing road.
